About the Role
The Program Manager of Health Information Management (HIM) is a highly responsible professional position that oversees the Health Information Management department and all related aspects of medical records within the agency. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, knowledge of medical terminology and regulations, and a strong attention to detail. The individual in this role must have a strong working knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, Chapter 42 of the Code of Federal regulations (CFR), and other relevant federal regulations and applicable Florida statutes and rules. The Manager of HIM plays a pivotal role in maintaining the accuracy, security, and confidentiality of patient information while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in health information management.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in health care related field preferred.
- Certified Health Information Management Professional (CHIM), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state regulations related to medical records management and confidentiality and privacy laws. Strong understanding of the requirements and best practices for healthcare documentation.
What you will do:
- Serves as the agency's Privacy Officer and responsible for ensuring procedures, processes and protocols related to HIM comply with all governing regulations and requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for the management of client health information in compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Oversees the organization and maintenance of client records, ensuring proper documentation, confidentiality, and accessibility.
- Implements effective record-keeping and tracking systems to ensure efficient retrieval and management of records and requests.
- Collaborate with community agencies and other departments to address record-related requests and/or concerns.
- Monitor and evaluate medical records practices through routine auditing, to identify opportunities for improvement, and implement changes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
- Develop and enforce protocols for records retention, release, and destruction, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
- Stay up to date with changes in medical record regulations and technology to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
- Respond to inquiries and requests for records from authorized individuals or organizations, while safeguarding confidentiality and privacy.
- Participate in assigned quality improvement committees.
- Oversee day-to-day activities and staff in the HIM Department.
- Serves as expert resource and consultant for HIM-related activities throughout the agency.
