JOB SUMMARY: This is an entry-level position providing supportive counseling, psycho-educational lectures and ancillary services within the Addictions Program. The position requires the ability to model behaviors and work as a member of the treatment team in reaching the goals of the individualized treatment plan, as well as the goals of the program.
GENERAL DUTIES:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of college with one year of related addictions experience, or a high school diploma or GED and two years of experience in working with youth. Must be currently working in, or experienced in counseling/mental health/addictions field. Must be available ( sometimes on short notice ) nights ( 4p-12a ) overnights ( 12a-8a ) and/or weekend ( Sat/Sun - 12a-8a or 8a-4p or 4p-12a ). Must have clean Driving Record for past 3 years. Will be required to obtain Class 'D' License for transportation of persons served.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Specific competencies required are identified on a department/program specific basis and identified in each employee's Competency Checklist. The following are general and apply to all positions with this title.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Has oral and written skills sufficient to fulfill the duties for this job. Has adequate assessment intervention skills. Appropriately implements behavioral, cognitive and family interventions under the direction of other staff. Can identify signs and indicates of abuse. Can determine the need for Detox/Crisis Stabilization. Has knowledge of addictions and the treatment process. Has adequate consultation skills. Understands the need to integrate family/caregiver/significant others in treatment. Understands the nature of and maintains appropriate professional boundaries (e.g., can examine the use of self in disclosures, transference/counter-transference issues). Provides culturally competent care. Apples appropriate therapeutic interventions. Has adequate documentation skills. Is proficient in completion of key clinical records forms.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY:
Has the ability to deal with complex situations to determine a course of action that solves the problem and applies Center policy and procedure. Has the ability to analyze processes and ask questions that lead to improvement in the process under review or the outcome created by that process. Can define problems, define information or resources needed, collect data, draw conclusions and outline solutions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
