Position Summary:

This position performs customer service duties as well as general and specialized medical billing and collections functions. The Account Clerk II serves as a liaison between client relations units and functions as a team leader for a particular unit. The work requires the use of independent judgement and initiative in carrying out duties, and the ability to provide clerical support on all levels within the Center.  In addition, the Account Clerk II uses the Electronic Health Record extensively in setting up medical billing for electronic and /or paper claims filing, and follows the claims process through to completion. Position is responsible for maintaining a professional office setting, maintaining billing records and explanation of benefits, frequent reporting on account status, AR balances, denial reasons, and other patient account management. Account Clerk II should provide excellent Center-wide customer service, should be willing to assist in special projects, and perform other duties as required to meet departmental and Center goals. Position requires a knowledge base of the insurance claim cycle, Accounts Receivable, Excel, Outlook and Word. In addition, Account Clerk II should be knowledgeable in Commercial Insurance, Medicaid, Managed Medicaid and Medicare billing requirements and coding. Account Clerk II should be able to work independently with moderate supervision.  This position requires heavy public contact.


Minimum Qualifications:

Position requires a knowledge base of the insurance claim cycle, Accounts Receivable, Excel, Outlook and Word. In addition, Account Clerk II should be knowledgeable in Commercial Insurance, Medicaid, Managed Medicaid and Medicare billing requirements and coding. Account Clerk II should be able to work independently with moderate supervision.  CMA highly preferred.

Education: An Associate of Arts (AA) degree, preferably in Business, and experience in general clerical, secretarial, receptionist experience, preferably including third party billing OR Graduation from a standard high school or its equivalent and two years of experience in a clinical setting and/or dealing with third-party billing.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist telephone and on-site customers with inquiries and questions; refer to most appropriate department for assistance
  • Position is responsible for maintaining billing records and explanation of benefits, frequent reporting on account status, AR balances, denial reasons, and other patient account management.
  • Provide excellent Center-wide customer service, be willing to assist in special projects, and perform other duties as required to meet departmental and Center goals.
  • Provide receptionist and/or secretarial duties for Department, including but not limited to: transcription, correspondence composition, typing, filing, photocopy, mail sorting and distribution, and scheduling of appointments
  • Verify client payor eligibility status and, if managed care payor, process appropriate paperwork to obtain authorization for payment of service
  • Maintain and update Center Wide Policy Manual, Procedure Manuals, as well as Program-specific policies and procedures in Department, assisting supervisor with employee notification and training, when necessary.
  • Coordinate clinic doctor schedules and client's appointments, including on-going evaluation and initiation of necessary changes to maintain a smooth, efficient running clinic.

  • Maintain billing records, processing denials, Aging Report (AR) and managing client accounts.
