Position Title: SSVF - Housing Navigator

Location: Gainesville, FL.

  • Provide support to program participants with housing location, Develop/maintain relationships with landlords, and provide support as concerns arise.
  • Responsible for building relationship with landlords, create, maintain a landlord listing database, Work with VA Medical Centers and other providers to regularly case conference Veteran families with VASH Case Managers to coordinate housing navigation services.
  • Utilize rapid rehousing referrals as bridge to VASH to quickly secure housing unites when there are delays in the Permanent Housing Assistance process. Collect and keep files of income certifications, calculation of subsidies and lease approvals for participant's direct lease contracts.
  • Provide program participants with the housing resources needed to reach their permanent housing goals, assist with client intake process, initial assessments; create, maintain client files and the development of individualized service plans.
  • Provide support to help resolve tenant, landlord disputes working with case management teams, tenants, property, Provide individual and in group education regarding housing retention, tenancy skills and money management.
  • Negotiate rental agreements with landlords, conduct housing inspection/assist participants with review of lease agreements, move ins, conduct office, home/field visits to program participants, provide documents all services provided through HMIS data base, including client in takes, program entry and program exit.
  • Assist with client intake process and initial assessments; create and maintain client files. Network with other agencies, coalitions, and local community meetings. Actively participate in staff meetings and trainings with the HUD-VASH Team and collaborating agencies.
  • Actively collaborate with case managers on the client's progress and challenges. Distribute educational information throughout the community and provide resources and referrals to families. Maintain liaison and good working relationship with various government and professional agencies.
  • Provide units of service as determined by our memorandum of understanding and contract expectations and perform other duties as assigned.

Who are we looking for? (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; AA degree required.
  • two years of experience dealing with the homeless population, accessing benefits and working in housing and/or community development and 1 year experience working with professional management and computer input an equivalent combination of training and experience required which provides the required knowledge, ability, and skills, experience working with computer systems, including electronic spreadsheet, database management and word processing.
  • Must have a current Florida Driver's License with a clean driving record while meeting company insurance requirements.
